Towns, dzongs and temples are one aspect of Bhutan, but the majority of the country is still in deep forests with a scattering of tiny settlements of affectionate people, and high grazing lands, and nowhere is this more obvious than on a trek. The moment you step out off the road to start this trek Treks can be long and arduous, but Bhutan’s incredible beauty, clean unspoiled trails and bracing mountains offers the trekker, an exhilarating and memorable experience! Treks range from short excursions, with easy walking to enjoy the rich flora, fauna, culture and scenic beauty, to the most toughest treks in the entire Himalayas, such as the legendary Snowman - Gangkhar Punsum. ![]() The well known Jhomolhari Trek into the north western Bhutan passes scattered hamlets, forested valleys and high alpine meadows where yak herders live in solitude. The popular Laya Gasa Hot Spring Trek takes you through fabulous mountains and uninhabited areas to reach the highest villages in Bhutan, Laya, ending with hot dip at the Gasa hot springs makes the trek one of our favorites. The most challenging Snowman Gangkhar Punsum Trek takes you through Jhomolhari, Lingshi to the hospitable people of Laya, and the isolated Lunana right up to the foot of the massive Gangkhar Punsum, the world’s highest unclimbed peak. The Gantey Trek is through one of the few glacial valleys of Bhutan, which in spring season is brilliantly coloured with rhododendrons and magnolia. The Druk Path, between Thimphu and Paro, with its spectacular views of the Himalayas on clear day, mountain lakes teeming with fish, and mountain slopes carpeted with rhododendron trees makes this a popular trail for those visiting Paro and Thimphu. Best months for trekking are : March, April, May, September, October, November. In general, the climate is colder and damper than one would expect to find in Nepal. The monsoon starts in June, and lasts until end of September, bringing with it the heavy rainfall which is responsible for the lush vegetation which covers much of Bhutan. The starting point of treks in Bhutan are generally higher than in Nepal. Day time heat of around 20 degrees centigrade can be expected at altitudes around 2000 meters, whilst at higher camps the maximum daytime temperature will be 10 to 15 degrees centigrade. At night time the temperature will drop to minus 7 degrees centigrade at highest camps. For detailed day to day itineraries, please write to us.
